Lay out the complete air path
- Dry air pump with the correct supply and outlets for the intended branches.
- Airline compatible with the pump and filter connectors.
- Check valve pointing toward the aquarium, placed as its instructions require.
- Required splitters and branch controls.
- Sponge filter with its specified air stone or integral collar and lift tube.
A sponge alone cannot move water. Do not assume tubing or valves are included with a pump. Add every part to the cost checklist.
Size by depth, branches and assembly
Measure water depth at the air outlet and airline length. Greater depth adds back pressure; valves, long runs and diffusers affect delivered air. Match the pump’s documented depth/output conditions to that arrangement. Free-air output cannot establish installed output, and filter-water GPH is not an air-pump measurement.
Splitting one outlet does not promise equal flow at two filters. Count branches and check permitted adjustment. Our air-pump records preserve missing depth/output evidence: without it, a gallons-based pairing cannot be guaranteed.
Use the exact sponge generation
The Easy Flow fine Nano and Small use an integral air collar instead of a separate stone. The maker positions the uplift opening partly above the waterline. Shallow tanks may need permitted tube adjustment; measure before cutting.
This applies to Easy Flow, not every sponge design. Compare its footprint, tube height and removal space with your tank plan.
Install and check the accessible air path
Follow the pump’s dry-placement and electrical instructions. Route tubing without pinching it beneath the lid, check valve direction, and connect fittings securely. Start at the permitted control setting and observe the uplift and surface movement. Bubbles do not prove biological readiness or sufficient dissolved oxygen for particular animals.
For weak output, inspect accessible tubing for kinks and loose connections, then check valve direction and the filter’s cleaning instructions. Easy Flow requires cleaning its sponge and collar. Do not open a powered pump or improvise wiring repairs.
Plan backup separately
The single-outlet and dual-outlet Co-Op models include battery operation. Follow their charging and mode instructions and verify transition/runtime with the installed air path during routine preparation. Published runtime does not promise the same result at another depth or battery age.
Air backup does not power a heater or canister. Use the outage checklist for those jobs.
