Sources for our aquarium equipment facts

Equipment specifications come from the maker of the exact US model. Tank plans use Aqueon dimensions and accessory information. Care guidance names its veterinary or university source.

What an update means

“Updated” beside a source is the date of the information used here. It is not a promise of current stock or a new test of the equipment. Where a source supports several pages, the earliest outstanding update is shown.

Missing specifications stay unknown. Different generations and wattage variants stay separate. Manufacturer pump output, filter circulation and maximum flow keep their original labels; none is a measurement of your installed flow.

After 90 days, dated equipment details remain available, but stop supplying automatic tank-size matches and wattage. Use the label and manual for your equipment if the current details are unresolved. Model changes and unresolved ratings explain the consequential differences.

Calculations and units

The tools use your measurements and visible arithmetic. A US gallon is 231 cubic inches or 3.785411784 liters; a pound is 0.45359237 kilograms. NIST Guide to the SI, Appendix B: conversion factors. Updated 2026-09-20.

Water weight uses approximately 1 kilogram per liter of freshwater. This is a planning approximation, not a density measurement. Weight totals cannot approve glass, a stand or a floor.

Flow is collected volume divided by elapsed time. Turnover divides hourly flow by working water, without choosing a suitable rate for fish. Electricity is watts divided by 1,000, multiplied by operating hours and your tariff. Annual comparisons use a stated 365-day period. Example inputs are arithmetic examples, not recommended water-change percentages, care schedules or market prices.

Product photos, when available, show the exact Amazon item and link to it. They come through Amazon’s licensed image service and expire within 23 hours. A missing photo does not change the equipment choice. Diagrams of tank measurements and calculation steps are our own explanatory drawings.

Use the contact route with the exact model and the maker’s current information. A different model, regional version or package cannot resolve a missing specification for the one shown.
