How to grow anubias nana

Anubias nana is a tough, low-growing plant with dark, leathery leaves that most fish, including many cichlids and goldfish, leave alone. It needs low light and no CO₂. Like java fern, keep the rhizome out of the substrate.

Common problems

  • Green spot algae on the slow-growing leaves: shade it, reduce the light period, add nerite snails.
  • Rotting rhizome from burial.
