Match support as well as footprint
The outside footprint is only one check. Match the exact aquarium to a suitably designed aquarium stand and the maker’s support requirements. A wide enough board establishes neither load capacity nor compatible support. Do not remove braces, drill glass or add a mat without instructions for that model.
The weight worksheet itemizes water, tank, substrate, hardscape and equipment, then adds the stand separately. It does not approve furniture or a floor. Unresolved building-load questions need a qualified structural professional.
Match the top to the tank family
Aqueon’s Hinged Glass Tops specify exact fit variants. The six Aqueon plans name their SKUs. These matches do not transfer to every tank with the same gallon label.
Measure the supporting ledges, brace and individual openings. A four-foot tank may need two panels. Folded or packaged dimensions in a product specification are not a usable lid span.
Check the rear edge and opening arc
- Mark filter intakes/returns, hoses, airline and cords at the rim.
- Use the top’s instructions for its cuttable rear strip; never cut glass or braces.
- Check the top remains on its intended ledges.
- Open the feeding door fully and allow complete top removal.
- Check light span and mounts; do not assume glass supports arbitrary fixture weight.
Dry-fit this arrangement. If a bracket occupies the lid ledge, select a documented alternative mount or compatible fixture.
Leave space to service it
A canister needs hose routing and space to remove media. A HOB needs rear clearance and space above its basket. Use the cabinet-clearance guide before filling, then follow the setup sequence.
