Read the included test list
The API Freshwater Master Test Kit contains tests for pH, high-range pH, ammonia, nitrite and nitrate. It does not supply general-hardness or carbonate-hardness tests. If your question requires GH or KH, those are additional test jobs.
Use the test-kit record to identify the current product and instructions. A broad “master” label is not a promise that the box tests everything an aquarium might need.
Follow each procedure separately
Different tests have their own sample volume, preparation, reagent sequence and reading time. Do not use one remembered procedure for every bottle. Read the current instructions, keep the sample equipment clean as directed and interpret the chart under its specified conditions.
Keep the original instructions with the kit. Avoid comparing a casually photographed color sample with an online picture: camera exposure, display and lighting can alter what the color appears to be.
Keep a useful record
Record the date, measured parameter, result and any equipment or water change associated with it. A consistent record can help you recognize that a condition changed. It is not a substitute for a species-appropriate response or veterinary assessment.
Check reagent storage, shelf life and replacement information. Include the actual replacement amounts in the supplies planner rather than assuming the initial kit is a permanent cost.
Know what the number cannot prove
A volume or filter rating cannot establish a tank’s biological readiness. Likewise, a single test result cannot settle every welfare question. Cycling, stocking, territory and the needs of the specific animals are separate from equipment arithmetic.
This guide does not diagnose illness or recommend treatment. For fish illness or persistent unexplained problems, use qualified aquatic veterinary help.
