Seachem MultiTest Ammonia

Reads free ammonia, the toxic part, as well as the total, and over 75 tests per kit.

Reagent kit that reads both total and free ammonia, down to under 0.05 mg/L, in fresh or salt water.

Consider: Ammonia only, and more steps than a strip. It is the one to use if you dose Prime or another ammonia binder.

What it tests

Tests for
Total ammonia and free ammonia
Reading range
down to under 0.05 mg/L (ppm)
In the pack
over 75 tests
How to read it
Samples go in the six-cavity white plate, so up to six can run at once; slide the color chart’s 5 cm window over each to match it.

Before choosing this model

  • Seachem says this kit still reads correctly with an ammonia binder such as Prime in the water, where salicylate and Nessler kits can show ammonia that the binder is holding.

What Seachem doesn’t publish

  • Seachem doesn’t print the highest reading on the chart. Check it in the box.

In a new tank the readings that matter most are ammonia and nitrite, so check the kit reads both, or add a test that does: see how to test your water.

Included items & upkeep

  • six-cavity test plate
  • color chart with a sliding window
  • reference sample

Plan for the routine work

  • If you think the kit reads wrong, test the reference sample in place of tank water, as Seachem describes.

Check the use-by date printed on the pack before you trust a reading: old test solutions and strips can read wrong. Replace the kit once it is past that date.
