Reads nitrate, nitrite, hardness, chlorine, KH and pH in fresh or salt water; no ammonia pad.

Consider: No ammonia pad. Tetra sells ammonia strips separately and in its Complete kit.

What it tests
- Tests for
- Nitrate, nitrite, total hardness (GH), total chlorine, alkalinity (KH) and pH
- In the pack
- 4, 25 or 100 strips
- How to read it
- Dip the strip in the tank water for one second, don’t shake it, hold it level for 60 seconds and compare it with the scale on the bottle.
Before choosing this model
- Test your tap water too: the chlorine pad shows whether it still needs conditioner.
- Tetra says the pH pad reads accurately only when alkalinity is at least 120 ppm.
In a new tank the readings that matter most are ammonia and nitrite, so check the kit reads both, or add a test that does: see how to test your water.

Included items & upkeep
- bottle of strips with a drying agent
- color scale on the bottle
Plan for the routine work
- Keep the cap tight, store the bottle at room temperature and leave the drying agent in it.
- Check the use-by date on the bottom of the bottle.
Check the use-by date printed on the pack before you trust a reading: old test solutions and strips can read wrong. Replace the kit once it is past that date.
