API Ammonia Test Strips
Reads ammonia only, 0 to 6 ppm.
Dip strips that read ammonia from 0 to 6 ppm in fresh or salt water.
Consider: One reading, ammonia, per strip. A liquid kit reads a wider range, up to 8 ppm in API’s.

What it tests
- Tests for
- Ammonia
- Reading range
- 0 to 6 ppm
- In the pack
- 25 strips
- How to read it
- Dip the strip in the tank water and compare it with the color chart, which also says what to do about a high reading.
Before choosing this model
- Pair it with a nitrite test while a new tank cycles: this strip reads ammonia only.
In a new tank the readings that matter most are ammonia and nitrite, so check the kit reads both, or add a test that does: see how to test your water.

Plan for the routine work
- In a new tank, test every other day until ammonia reads 0 ppm; in an established tank, test weekly, as API advises.
Check the use-by date printed on the pack before you trust a reading: old test solutions and strips can read wrong. Replace the kit once it is past that date.
