- Readings are given as nitrite and nitrate, not as nitrogen: divide by 3.3 and 4.4 to compare with a kit that reports nitrogen.
Before choosing this model
- Seachem says nitrite should be undetectable in an established tank (it can pass 20 mg/L while a tank cycles) and advises keeping nitrate under 20 mg/L.
What Seachem doesn’t publish
- Seachem doesn’t print the highest reading on the chart. Check it in the box.
In a new tank the readings that matter most are ammonia and nitrite, so check the kit reads both, or add a test that does: see how to test your water.

Plan for the routine work
- If you think the kit reads wrong, test the reference sample in place of tank water.
Check the use-by date printed on the pack before you trust a reading: old test solutions and strips can read wrong. Replace the kit once it is past that date.
