US version, item 19540. Check what’s in the box before you buy.
What it tests
- Tests for
- Ammonia
- In the pack
- 25 or 100 strips
- How to read it
- Swish the strip back and forth in the tank water for 10 seconds, shake off the water and compare it with the chart straight away.
Before choosing this model
- Tetra says to test when you set up a tank or change water, when your tap water has chloramine, and when fish breathe fast, dart around, stop eating or clamp their fins.
What Tetra doesn’t publish
- Tetra doesn’t print the range these strips read. Check the chart on the bottle.
In a new tank the readings that matter most are ammonia and nitrite, so check the kit reads both, or add a test that does: see how to test your water.

Plan for the routine work
- Keep the cap tight, store the bottle at room temperature and leave the drying agent in it.
- Check the use-by date on the bottom of the bottle.
Check the use-by date printed on the pack before you trust a reading: old test solutions and strips can read wrong. Replace the kit once it is past that date.
