Aqueon QuietFlow Air Pump 100

Aqueon rates it for aquariums up to 100 US gal; 3.8 W, two outlets.

Aqueon’s plug-in air pump. It stands upright, so the air outlets point up and the airline doesn’t kink, it has a check valve built in to stop water running back into it if the power goes off, and its wide rubber base soaks up the hum.

Consider: Its check valve is built in and Aqueon gives its watts, but not its air flow, so you can’t compare it with other pumps on air. Two outlets run two sponge filters or stones.

Before choosing this model

  • Airline tubing is sold separately, as is the air stone or sponge filter it runs.
  • Stand it on a flat surface near the tank, with a drip loop in the cord.

What Aqueon doesn’t publish

  • Aqueon publishes no air flow, so compare it with other pumps by tank rating, not by air.

Plan for the routine work

  • When the bubbles weaken, Aqueon’s repair kit for this size replaces two diaphragms, two check valves and a dust filter pad; Aqueon advises changing worn ones to keep it working well.

To budget for replacement media and supplies, use the first-year cost calculator. For how often and how to clean it, follow the maker’s manual.
