Aqueon QuietFlow Air Pump 40
Aqueon rates it for aquariums up to 40 US gal; 2.8 W, one outlet.
Aqueon’s plug-in air pump. It stands upright, so the air outlet points up and the airline doesn’t kink, it has a check valve built in to stop water running back into it if the power goes off, and its wide rubber base soaks up the hum.
Consider: Its check valve is built in and Aqueon gives its watts, but not its air flow, so you can’t compare it with other pumps on air.

Plan for the routine work
- When the bubbles weaken, Aqueon’s repair kit for this size replaces a diaphragm, a check valve and a dust filter pad; Aqueon advises changing worn ones to keep it working well.
To budget for replacement media and supplies, use the first-year cost calculator. For how often and how to clean it, follow the maker’s manual.
