Aqueon QuietFlow Canister Filter 300
Aqueon’s catalog rates it for 55–100 US gal, its manual and product page for up to 75; we list it for 55–75 gal, where they agree. 300 gph.
Aqueon’s canister filter, with three ways to return the water: a spray bar, a water director, or a polishing unit that hangs on the rim and holds a Large Aqueon cartridge as the last, finest stage. It comes with its foam, carbon, bio-balls and bio-ceramic rings packed in the media baskets, quick-disconnect valves and hoses.
Consider: It needs a 17 in tall spot in the cabinet, no more than 4½ ft below the water. Its rim-hung polishing unit takes a cartridge you can change in a minute without opening the canister.

Pump output, filter circulation and maximum flow are measured in different ways. Your filter will move less water than the box says once media and hoses are in. Measure it with the flow calculator.
Before choosing this model
- Confirm item 100107313, the 300 gph size.
- It runs by gravity: stand it no more than 4½ ft below the tank’s water level and never above it, and keep the hoses straight, without twists or sharp bends.
- Keep the water no more than 8 in below the tank’s top frame, as Aqueon’s manual says.
What Aqueon doesn’t publish
- Aqueon gives the current it draws (0.45 A at 120 V), not its watts. Read the watts on the motor’s label before you use the electricity cost calculator.

Included items & upkeep
- canister with pump head
- quick-disconnect valves
- hoses and intake and return fittings
- spray bar
- water director
- hang-on-back water polishing unit with a Large Aqueon cartridge
- coarse foam, activated carbon, bio-balls and bio-ceramic rings
Plan for the routine work
- Media order, as Aqueon’s manual gives it: foam and carbon in the top basket, bio-ceramic rings and bio-balls at the bottom.
- The polishing unit’s cartridge can be rinsed or changed without stopping the canister; replace it once it is more than 3 weeks old or won’t rinse clean.
- Its refill is Aqueon’s Large Replacement Filter Cartridge ↗, which Aqueon lists for this canister, in packs of 1, 3, 6 or 12.
- Change the carbon every 30 days; rinse or replace the foam as needed.
- On cleaning day, close both quick-disconnect valves before you unscrew them: the intake hose stays full, so the filter needs no priming again. Afterwards open the IN valve first and loosen the vent cap until the canister refills, then close the cap, open OUT and plug it in.
To budget for replacement media and supplies, use the first-year cost calculator. For how often and how to clean it, follow the maker’s manual.
