hygger Precise Aquarium Heater 50W

Manufacturer-rated for aquariums of 5–10 US gal; adjustable 59–93°F.

A 50 W quartz glass heater with a controller on the cord: you set it from 59 to 93 °F in half-degree steps, it reads the water with two probes, and it beeps if a probe fails, the heater is out of the water or it overheats.

Consider: The controller stays dry outside the tank and remembers your setting through a power cut, but the glass tube has no guard around it.

Before choosing this model

  • Keep the whole heater at least 2 in under the water and clear of the gravel, as hygger says.
  • Choose the mode: precise heats when the water falls 0.5 °F below your setting, ECO waits for a 1 °F drop.
  • hygger gives a temperature tolerance of ±2 °F, so the water can settle up to 2 °F either side of your setting: set the middle of your fish’s range and check it with a thermometer in the tank.

Plan for the routine work

  • Wipe it with a soft cloth every 2 to 4 weeks so scale doesn’t build up, as hygger advises.
  • Look the glass over when you clean it, and replace the heater at once if you find a crack.

To budget for replacement media and supplies, use the first-year cost calculator. For how often and how to clean it, follow the maker’s manual.
