Plants shrimp use most
- Moss: java moss, Christmas moss and flame moss: the best nursery for baby shrimp.
- Floating plants: Amazon frogbit and water sprite; shrimp graze their trailing roots.
- Fine leaves: hornwort and pearl weed.
- Easy anchors: anubias, java fern and bucephalandra on wood.
- Marimo balls, which shrimp pick over all day.
Plant care with shrimp
Shrimp are sensitive to copper: check that a fertilizer is labeled safe for shrimp before dosing it, and rinse and check new plants: nursery plants can carry snails, and pesticide residue that rinsing may not remove; tissue-culture plants in sealed cups carry neither.
